African nations increasingly implement digital identity systems, accelerated by rapid digital transformation. Consequently, Senegalese authorities are examining a proven model to guide their own implementation.
The Senegalese Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy disclosed on Monday, October 27, that a delegation visited Togo for a benchmarking mission concerning the e-ID (digital identity) project. The delegation seeks inspiration from the Togolese methodology to construct a robust infrastructure in Senegal.
Yasmine Mama, Datacenter Network Specialist at Togo’s National Identification Agency, stated, "We showed the technical architectures, infrastructures, and logic deployed within the context of the e-ID project. We discussed the technical solution, MOSIP [Modular Open Source Identity Platform], all its components, and how the country integrated it into Togo."
This visit forms part of the "WURI – Unique Identification for Regional Integration and Inclusion in West Africa" program, supported by the World Bank. With backing from various technical and financial partners, Senegal intends to establish a secure, interoperable identification solution. This system will allow every citizen easier access to online public and private services.
Through this cooperation, Dakar expects to accelerate the implementation of its own e-ID system and strengthen digital trust. Ultimately, the project could become a major pillar of the country's digital transformation, streamlining access to education, healthcare, financial services, and social programs.
