  • Deal supports secure local data hosting, AI, and regional digital infrastructure growth

Pan-African digital services company ST Digital announced on Thursday, October 30, that it has signed a strategic technology partnership with French cloud infrastructure provider OVHcloud. The agreement aims to strengthen Africa’s sovereign cloud ecosystem and deliver services that meet international security and compliance standards.

By integrating OVHcloud solutions into our infrastructure, we are enabling our clients to go further and faster while keeping their data in trusted African hands,” said Anthony Same, chief executive of ST Digital. “This partnership strengthens and accelerates our mission to provide Africa with a powerful and accessible sovereign cloud.”

The partnership includes the deployment of OVHcloud’s advanced technologies, notably the On-Prem Cloud Platform (OPCP), within ST Digital’s data centers in Côte d’Ivoire, Gabon, and Cameroon. African businesses will gain access to a broader portfolio of cloud solutions, including storage, artificial intelligence, database management, and disaster recovery services, with payments available in local currencies.

The collaboration comes amid growing demand for sovereign digital infrastructure across Africa, as governments and companies seek to secure their data and reduce reliance on foreign service providers. ST Digital, a pioneer of fully African-owned cloud services, is reinforcing its footprint in Central and West Africa, where it already operates several Tier III-certified data centers.

While Africa still accounts for only about 1% of global data storage capacity, demand is rapidly rising with the expansion of digital services, e-commerce, and artificial intelligence. By supporting local payments, ensuring data sovereignty, and improving the availability of regional cloud services, the partnership is expected to help bridge the continent’s digital divide and accelerate its integration into the global data economy.
