  • Chad discusses Huawei partnership to advance Tchad Connexion 2030 strategy

  • Talks target telecom expansion, connectivity access and public service digitisation

  • Government seeks to narrow digital divide amid low internet penetration

Chad’s digital economy minister met with Huawei on Wednesday to discuss accelerating the rollout of the country’s national digital strategy, Tchad Connexion 2030.

The discussions focused on several strategic projects, including the expansion of telecommunications infrastructure, wider access to connectivity services, and faster digitization of public services. With internet access still uneven across the country, these areas are central to the government’s plans.

The authorities are turning to technology partnerships to narrow the digital divide, particularly in rural areas, and to build a more inclusive digital ecosystem. Improving network coverage, deploying digital solutions adapted to local conditions, and strengthening technical skills were identified as key drivers of this transition.

For Huawei, which is already involved in multiple digital infrastructure projects across Africa, the talks form part of its technical cooperation with governments pursuing economic modernization. Both sides discussed the potential to translate the discussions into concrete projects aligned with the priorities of Tchad Connexion 2030.

The meeting comes as Chad continues to face chronically low levels of connectivity. According to DataReportal, only 13.2% of the population had internet access at the start of 2025, with a pronounced gap between urban centres and rural areas.
