  • Gabon Loisirs et Tourisme acquires Newrest Gabon operations

  • Deal covers 300 employees, nine sites, and industrial catering services

  • Takeover aims to preserve jobs after labour and operational difficulties

Gabonese company Gabon Loisirs et Tourisme (GLT) said on Friday it had taken over Newrest Gabon, a unit of France’s Newrest Group, under an agreement transferring the company’s assets and liabilities.

The deal involves more than 300 employees across nine sites nationwide. Annual operating costs exceed 10 billion CFA francs ($16.5 million), including wages, payroll taxes and operating expenses, GLT said. Newrest Gabon operates mainly in contract catering and industrial food services, providing meals and onsite services for workers at oil, gas and mining facilities as well as major construction projects. Active in Gabon for 15 years, the company had been operating at about 10 oil sites, serving roughly 3,600 meals a day.

The takeover follows recent operational and labour problems at Newrest Gabon, particularly in the oil hub of Port-Gentil. GLT said the acquisition aims to keep operations running, preserve jobs and maintain services for public and private clients. A transition phase is under way, including a review of the acquired operations, the setup of management structures and talks with labour representatives.
