U.S. Electric vehicle manufacturer Cenntro Inc announced last week a partnership with Moroccan company Electricove to set up an electric vehicle assembly plant in the country.
Under the agreement, the facility will assemble Cenntro’s EV models, including the Teemak and LS450, targeting both the Moroccan market and other parts of North Africa. As part of the deal, Cenntro will provide technical documentation, assembly training, and engineering support to help Electricove build local assembly capabilities; strengthening a partnership that has already seen Electricove serve as Cenntro’s distribution partner in Morocco for several years.
“Cenntro’s collaboration with Electricove Maroc builds on a longstanding relationship with Electricove and represents a significant step in supporting EV deployment in the region,” said Peter Wang, CEO of Cenntro, in the company’s statement.
Listed on the Nasdaq, Cenntro noted that the initiative has been approved by Moroccan government authorities and business organizations. Morocco, which already has a strong automotive industry, is aiming to position itself as a new industrial hub for electric mobility in both Africa and the Mediterranean.
In recent years, several Chinese battery component manufacturers, including CNGR Advanced Material Company and Gotion High-Tech, have announced investments in Morocco to take advantage of the country’s free trade agreements with the European Union and the United States.
Morocco is home to a large automotive ecosystem with major global manufacturers such as Stellantis and Renault, along with hundreds of suppliers. The country’s automotive export value rose by 6.3% in 2024, reaching a record 157 billion dirhams ($17.4 billion), according to official data.
