• Guinea withdraws 129 exploration permits, including three held by Resolute
• Resolute says it received no official notice and may pursue legal action
• One affected permit includes a key asset tied to a $175M sale to AngloGold
On May 26, 2025, the Guinean government announced the withdrawal of 129 mining exploration permits covering various metals, including gold. Among the affected firms is Australian company Resolute Mining, which now seeks clarification regarding the status of its permits.
In a statement released on May 29, Resolute Mining said it had not received any official notification from the Guinean authorities, despite learning via local media that its three exploration permits had been revoked. These include the Niagassola, Doko, and Siguiri-Kouroussa permits.
“Resolute Mining has been made aware of media reports relating to the possibility of a large number of exploration permits being revoked in Guinea. Details of these were mentioned earlier this week during a local Guinean television report, including those permits held by Resolute. The Company, however, has not received any formal confirmation or communication from the Government of Guinea on the matter,” the company stated.
The Niagassola permit is the most advanced of the three, hosting the Mansala prospect, which contains an estimated 357,000 ounces of gold as declared in 2024. Mansala was selected as a potential asset to be transferred to AngloGold Ashanti under a $175 million sales agreement announced in early May.
Resolute has not yet disclosed the specific steps it plans to take in response but noted that a formal appeal to Guinea’s mining authorities is one potential route. Legal options, both national and international, remain under consideration depending on how the situation evolves.
