Guinea will inaugurate the Bambeto interchange in Conakry on Saturday, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Public Works said. Officials reported that remaining work, including landscaping, side access routes, public lighting and safety installations, has been completed.
The project began in April 2022 and was built by Sinohydro Corporation Limited. It was funded by the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) at a cost of about $26 million. The interchange is part of a broader government program to improve traffic flow in the capital, alongside the Enco 5 and Cosa interchanges.
Conakry’s rapid population growth has strained the city’s road network. Major thoroughfares such as the Le Prince Road and the Fidel Castro Expressway experience heavy daily congestion.
The interchange program is also tied to “Simandou 2040,” a national strategy aimed at transforming Guinea’s economy. The strategy is built around five pillars, including a focus on developing infrastructure such as roads, ports, and railways.
Under this framework, several major construction projects are underway, including the expansion of Conakry International Airport, the modernization of the Port of Morebay, and upgrades to part of the Simandou railway. The rail line is expected to carry passengers and general cargo in addition to iron ore.
