Aptech Africa equips three hospitals with hybrid solar systems to improve energy access
Installations include two 38 kW and one 20 kW systems, all with 30 kWh storage
Project addresses energy instability affecting health services in the country
Aptech Africa has completed the installation of hybrid solar systems in three medical facilities in the Central African Republic. The announcement was made on May 19 as part of a broader effort to stabilize power supply in the country’s fragile healthcare infrastructure.
The systems were deployed in Bégoua, Bédé Combatant, and Boye Rabe Health Center. Two of the facilities received 38 kWc solar installations, each with a 30 kWh storage capacity, while the third site was fitted with a 20 kWc system, also paired with 30 kWh of storage. All systems use lithium-ion batteries and include generator backup capability for periods of low sunlight.
The installations were designed, supplied, and commissioned by Aptech Africa. Each system was tailored to the specific energy needs of the respective facilities, featuring high-efficiency solar modules, smart inverters, and a remote monitoring system based on the Victron Cerbo GX platform with router and Data Manager. Local personnel also received technical training to ensure sustainable operation.
The initiative is particularly significant in a country where electricity access remains limited. According to the World Bank, only 17% of the Central African Republic’s population had access to electricity as of 2023. Power shortages in healthcare facilities routinely disrupt essential services such as lighting, vaccine refrigeration, and the use of medical equipment.
The World Health Organization underscores the critical importance of reliable electricity in achieving universal health coverage. In this context, Aptech’s hybrid solar solutions provide a clean, resilient, and rapidly deployable energy alternative that enhances healthcare delivery and operational continuity.
