Air Sénégal has expanded its fleet with the delivery, on Tuesday, of a 19-seat L 410 NG twin-engine turboprop from Czech manufacturer Aircraft Industries. It is the fourth of five aircraft ordered by the state-owned carrier to improving service to remote regions and enhance nationwide connectivity.
Well-suited for short-haul routes, the L 410 NG can operate on short, unpaved runways, aligning with the carrier’s goal of expanding its domestic network.
These deliveries coincide with the airline's ongoing restructuring and network revamp. The carrier recently began eliminating or reducing service on routes deemed unprofitable.
The turnaround plan includes creating Air Sénégal Express, a subsidiary focused on domestic and regional routes, particularly to neighboring countries. The goal is to streamline operations and improve profitability in local markets.
Other key reforms include introducing performance contracts to strengthen governance and opening the subsidiary’s ownership to private investors. The Senegalese government also plans to forge strategic partnerships to expand the carrier’s regional footprint.
