• AD Ports, Angola sign deal to modernize Luanda Port logistics
• $250M investment to boost cargo, container, Ro-Ro capacity
• Port handles 76% of Angola’s cargo, key for regional trade
AD Ports has finalized an agreement with the Angolan Commercial Regulatory Agency (ARCCLA) to develop a single logistics window for trade and upgrade cargo handling equipment at the Port of Luanda. The UAE-based ports group will acquire 30 new trucks and 45 trailers, valued at approximately $6 million, for its logistics operations at the port's multi-purpose terminal.
Under its concession agreement, the group plans to invest $250 million in the terminal by 2026 to improve the port's commercial infrastructure and logistics capabilities. As Angola's main maritime gateway, the Port of Luanda handles more than 76% of the country's container and general cargo volumes.
The port also serves as a transshipment hub for Central and West Africa, providing a logistics link to landlocked nations like the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia. Traffic is projected to grow at an average annual rate of 3.3% over the next decade.
According to AD Ports, the modernization of the multi-purpose terminal will be completed by the third quarter of 2026. This would increase its container handling capacity from 25,000 TEUs to 350,000 TEUs and its Ro-Ro volumes to over 40,000 vehicles.
