Orange Côte d'Ivoire this week hosted a meeting of the local network of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), bringing together companies, experts and partner organizations at the telecom operator’s headquarters.

The event, held under the theme “Together, All Committed to Building the UNGC Network in Côte d'Ivoire,” gathered representatives from companies including Ernst & Young, Petro Ivoire, Afrasia Bank, Ecobank, BICICI and CIMAX.

The objective was to strengthen dialogue among private sector players, share best practices and explore ways to expand the Global Compact’s presence in the country.

Speaking by video conference, Hervé Lado, Africa Director of the UNGC, said the initiative provides companies with platforms and tools to formalize commitments and set measurable targets, particularly on issues such as gender equality and decent work.

A panel discussion featured Kevin Yapi, CSR advisor at Agiloya Afrique; Eric N’Guessan, leader of EY’s Francophone Sub-Saharan Africa cluster; Koné Djeneba, representing Atlantic Group Director General Kouakou Anzoua Abissa; Caterine Assanvo, Director of Data, AI and CSR at Orange Côte d’Ivoire; and Letitia Lath-Ohouo, Head of Sustainability and ESG at SIFCA.

Speakers emphasized that corporate social responsibility can support business growth and strengthen brand reputation rather than hinder economic performance. Discussions also highlighted the importance of international reporting standards, investment in renewable energy, social inclusion and gender equality.

Since the launch of the UNGC local network in Côte d’Ivoire in 2023, membership has grown from around ten companies to nearly forty, reflecting increasing private sector interest in sustainability issues.

For organizers, this expansion also reflects a broader shift in the role of companies, which are increasingly expected to contribute to addressing social and environmental challenges.

In that context, Orange Côte d’Ivoire says its CSR strategy is built around connectivity, inclusion and empowerment. By aligning its initiatives with the Sustainable Development Goals, the company aims to demonstrate that sustainability and economic performance can reinforce each other while supporting the country’s digital and social transformation.

Over the past three years, we have expanded coverage to around 250 areas, connecting more than 3 million additional people. Beyond connectivity, we are also providing access to digital services and solutions that support everyday needs,” said Catherine Assanvo.
