German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his Angolan counterpart, João Lourenço, signed three agreements on November 5, 2025, during Steinmeier’s official visit to Angola. The accords aim to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.
According to President Lourenço, the visit will help consolidate bilateral ties, while President Steinmeier said it reflects the mutual commitment to deepen relations and implement joint initiatives.
The agreements include a contract between Lufthansa and Angola’s national airline TAAG, under which Lufthansa Consulting will support TAAG’s restructuring. Another memorandum of understanding provides for the creation of an agro-industrial development hub in partnership with the Angolan Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Gauff Engineering KG, and CHB Investment Holding. An exchange of letters of approval formalized the commitments.
Germany and Angola established a comprehensive partnership in 2011, which led to the creation of a bilateral commission involving several ministries. According to Germany’s Foreign Ministry, bilateral trade reached about €640 million ($738 million) in 2023, including €356 million in imports and €282 million in exports.
Steinmeier’s visit forms part of a diplomatic tour across North and sub-Saharan Africa.
