Yesterday, the Democratic Republic of Congo’s Mining Cadastre (Cami) enacted a temporary suspension of new mining and exploration permit applications. The decision was announced in a statement released on December 15, 2025, and will remain in force until further notice, with no reopening date specified.
Cami said the suspension does not apply to operations linked to existing rights. Applications for the conversion and renewal of mining titles, as well as the registration of transfers, leases, options, and other related legal acts, will continue to be processed.
According to the institution, the measure is part of the launch of a clean-up process of the cadastral registry, aimed at improving the reliability and management of the mining cadastre system.
The work follows similar efforts carried out in July. A report published in August 2025 said those operations enabled the Congolese state to recover 594 mining and quarry titles, covering 37,253 mining squares, or an area of 31,648 square kilometers, larger than Belgium.
The report also cited the administrative regularization of 210 mining rights that had been under prolonged force majeure status, representing 18,709 mining squares. These titles were reclassified as active, restoring the fiscal, social, and technical obligations of the companies concerned.
