(Ecofin Agency) - Today in Nigeria, it’s not a surprise anymore as President Mohammadu Buhari finally names himself as the new Minister of Petroleum Resources.

Buhari declared this at the swearing in of ministers at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

He is to be assisted by Ibe Kachikwu, the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) who is now the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources.

Buhari had in September stated that he will rather hold the portfolio than to entrust the source of approximately 70% of the country’s revenue to someone else.

He has vowed to rid the industry of corruption and oil vandalism as well as recover the huge sum of money stolen over the years, This Day reports.

Ecofin Agency provides daily coverage of nine key African economic sectors: public management, finance, telecoms, agribusiness, mining, energy, transport, communication, and education.
It also designs and manages specialized media, both online and print, for African institutions and publishers.
