Somalia: Prime Minister appoints new Industry and Energy ministers

(Ecofin Agency) - In Somalia, following the approval of a bill by the legislators to attract foreign investment, the country’s Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid Ali Sharmarke (photo) on Tuesday, appoints new ministers for industry and energy.

According to a decree read at the occasion, Abdrirashid Mohamed Ahmed is to replace Abdirahman Abdi Osman as the minister of commerce and industry while Mohamed Mursal Sheikh Abdirahman will take over from Mohamed Hassan Aden as the new minister of water and energy.

Parliamentary Speaker, Mohamed Osman Jawarey, had in Mogadishu stated that the bill, signed by the legislators grants foreign investors a legal plan to invest in the country.

Somalia is currently using military’s recent advances against al-Qaeda related fighters to try to lure foreign investors to help in rebuilding the economy after it has been stuck in a civil war for the past twenty-five years, Shabelle Media Network reports.
