The Government of Plateau has earmarked N38billion ($109.8million) for the construction of 16 roads this financial year to support rural development and improve the state’s economy, according to Pam Dongs, Plateau commissioner for Works and Transport.
He said measures had been taken to ensure that the contracts for the planned roads were awarded to the right contractors. “We are going to take very stringent measures to ensure that once the contracts are awarded, contractors follow specifications and finish up within the documented time frame. We want to make sure that contractors did not compromise standards in any way in terms of materials used.”
Dongs added that various committees had been set up to monitor the projects. He, however, urged potential contractors at the bidding process to give the ministry time to declare the winners of the contracts.
It should be highlighted that recently, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) approved $256.5million for the rehabilitation of 12 federal roads across the country, Plateau included.
