Egypt ordered 32 air-conditioned trains from South Korea, Egypt’s minister of investment and international cooperation Sahar Nasr (photo) informed.
These new trains valued at €243 million will be used at subway stations built in Cairo in the framework of phase 3 and 4 of the subway extension project.
The Korean company Hyundai Rotem has been chosen to construct and deliver the trains within 76 months.
The first four trains will be delivered when the works done during phase 4 of Metro Line 3 are inaugurated in late 2019. After these four, subsequent trains will be delivered one per month.
Let’s remind that phase 3 of metro line 3 is 17.7 kilometers long and is made of 15 subway stations while phase 4 is 11.5 kilometers long for 10 stations.
