In Yaoundé, Cameroon, the Centre for a sustainable environment (CED) launched a platform that aims to gather violation and land conflicts information. Baptised “Atlas colères et résistances communautaires en Afrique”, the platform should be used whistle-blowers denounce wrong actions of various entities, both private and public.
“In Cameroon and in about 200 nations worldwide, land issues are present. Be it expropriation, land grabs, or any other land-related violation, local communities and indigenous populations are usually victims of administrative authorities and private firms’ as well. This platform will help identify areas where populations complain about land grabbing,” Cameroun Info stated.
Not repressive, the platform rather aims to dissuade those contributing to the thriving of violations in the land industry. “The Atlas aims to identify places where there are conflicts so that solutions are provided. And even if these solutions are systematic, exposing them should dissuade those behind the problems,” said Samuel Nguiffo, CED’s secretary general.
