Congolese land owners have been given a month to get registered under a single registry or face sanctions. This was announced on September 7, 2017, by the minister of land affairs and state domains, in charge of relations with the Parliament, Pierre Mabiala. The official was then addressing the national association of land owners.
“First, we would like you to provide a complete file listing all of Congo’s land owners. Starting now, you have a month to do so. All those who fail to do so will be severely sanctioned. In the registry concerned, besides their names and surname, each land owner will have to provide the location of his properties as well the corresponding area,” said the minister who was cited by the Agence d’information d’Afrique centrale.
Concluding, the official explained that the creation of the common registry “falls under a set of measures aiming to put order in this strategic sector”, which is land.
