In the Diass community which is situated 40km South-West of Dakar in Senegal, a group of youth gathered under the Patriotic Movement for Development (MPD) denounced the “pronounced land speculation” affecting the region. The group calls unto the President, Macky Sall, according to the Senegal Press Agency.
“We denounce the unfairness which our people are suffering, especially in regards to land management. For some years now, our lands have been coveted. They are being sold very cheap to foreign developers, with no consideration or whatsoever for the youth’s future. Yesterday even, 55ha in the Boukhou village were arbitrarily awarded to a private developer. We are saying no to the selling-off of our lands,” declared Demba Bâ, one of the movement’s spokesperson.
The group now asks President Sall to respond to their cries and insure that adequate measures are taken to end the situation. “These issues are very important to us and that is why we are asking President Macky Sall to intervene. We cannot stay still and watch our lands being stripped from us, “said the spokesperson.
