In 2018, the flow of official development assistance from the OECD zone toward Africa shrunk by 4%, a report published this week by the OECD reveals.
According to the institution, this decrease was correlated to the reduction of refugee assistance because of the reflux of arrivals and changes in the official development assistance counting methodology.
Year on year, humanitarian aid decreased by 8% in 2018. The OECD's Development Assistance Committee (DAC) indicates that countries that needed development assistance the most received less during the period under review. In real terms, the development assistance to less developed countries decreased by 3%.
"The cut in aid to the poorest and most vulnerable countries is alarming,” Susanna Moorehead, DAC president said.
In 2017, this aid rose by 3% to reach $29 billion, according to figures published by the OECD.
