Nissan announced, in a release published yesterday, a partnership with Algerian group Hasnaoui for a $160 million vehicle plant in Algeria.
According to the release, more than 1,800 jobs will be created thanks to the plant, which should be completed by 2020. Apart from these new jobs, the plant will support many more in the supply chain. This new plant with a production capacity of 63,500 should also boost the economic activity of a country which is trying to diversify its economy.
Let’s note that in 2018, the country’s unemployment rate rose from 11.7% to 13.7% due to a slowdown in economic activity, according to figures published by the national office for statistics. According to the World Bank, Algeria’s economy should grow by 2.3% in 2019 and 1.8% in 2020.
