To promote investment in the Algerian agricultural sector, the minister of agriculture, rural development and fishery, Abdesselam Chelghoum, revealed that over two years, 350,000 hectares of arable lands were awarded to investors, Alg24 reports.
The minister who disclosed the information on the sidelines of a fair on agrofood production in Algiers, called investors to “modernize the sector by introducing new technologies in the agricultural sector”. A modernization which aligns with the government’s strategy to make agriculture a driver of economic growth.
Last week, it should be recalled, Chelghoum had announced that 100,000 hectares of unexploited arable lands had been recovered by the State to be valorized. “We are looking for partners that will work with the State in the framework of its strategy to insure food security and diversify the economy,” the official said at the time.
