The Program for young politicians in Africa (PYPA) and Friedrich Naumann foundation has organized a training on land issues for the Ivorian youth. Under the theme “Comment réinventer le foncier en Côte d’Ivoire?” the conference-debate was held on January 11, 2018, in Abidjan. It follows the workshop previously organized in November 2017 by the Friedrich Ebert Foundation and the Réseau ivoirien des leaders (RIL).
“From the outset, Mr. Nahounou Jenny, representative of the director of Program Director at Friedrich Naumann Foundation, sets the stage by emphasizing the importance of rural land in the training of the political elite of tomorrow. He indicated that property right is a condition for individual freedom and right”, Abidjan.net reported.
According to the panelists who hosted the meeting, in a country where only 4% of lands are registered, it is crucial to inform the population, the youth especially. "Young people need to be informed and trained on the customary and modern side (laws and implementing legislation). We must struggle for young people’s participation in the management committees of villages", said Ms. Boussou Nancy-Ellen, a jurist specialized in land issues.
