Senegal: CONGAD trains 105 community stakeholders to land governance in Ida Mouride

Monday, 15 May 2017 23:30

In the framework of the project for the adoption of land governance charters by Senegal’s communities, the non-governmental organizations Council for development support (CONGAD) organized on May 14, 2017, in Ida Mouride, Koungheul department, a workshop to boost land management skills of 105 community stakeholders.

This was reported by the Senegal Press Agency (Agence de Presse Sénégalaise – APS). “We will inform over two days the local actors regarding voluntary guidelines for a responsible governance of FAO’s land regimes. This workshop will help us widely disseminate land information guidelines which contain land-related procedures and voluntary guidelines,” Mbaye Niang, head of programmes at CONGOAD told APS.

Niang also announced the creation in Ida Mouride of an enlarged land committee (CDE) to representatives of civic society. “We have noticed a lot of issues related to State land at Ida Mouride, issues related to land regularization as well issues related to populations’ participation in the land management process. It is therefore vital for this community to get a state domain committee that impacts all actors, in order to facilitate talks between land stakeholders,” he explained.

“At the workshop gathered farmers and producers associations, youth organizations, livestock breeders’ organizations, loggers, village chiefs, municipal councilors and the Ida Mouride mayor, Eladji Amath Ndao,” APS said.
