According to Thierno Demba Sow, president of Thiés court of appeal, there would be no development for the country if they do not address land issues.
The official specified that local elected officials “who manage land in their localities must be updated on the relevant texts and laws in order to make decisions in accordance with the current law, until those that are no longer in phase with the current context are updated and modified,” with the objective “to reduce tasks for courts as, out of 371 judgments in operation, 108 are due to land conflicts, representing 29.11% of cases. In February, out of the 15 judgments, there were 4 cases of land conflicts (26.66%)”.
Aïssata Tall Gassama, the Secretary-General of the justice ministry, explained that the law 64-46 of 17 June 1964 that organizes the national domain should be reviewed and adapted especially by taking into account the agro-sylvo-pastoral orientation law that regulates relations between herders and farmers in rural area, and the Code of urbanism which forbids the sale of any land in the national domain.
