(Ecofin Agency) - The Liberian National Housing Authority NHA has initiated discussions with GELPAZ IMMO S.A, a Burkinabe real estate company, which plans to build 50,000 houses in the country. In that regard, a delegation of GELPAZ IMMO S.A, led by the CEO Alain Z. Zoungrana, came to the country on August 12, 2018, to conclude the agreement with Liberia via the housing authority.
During a press conference on Tuesday, 14, August 2018, the general director of NHA, Duanah Siryon, declared that the Liberian government agreed to GELPAZ IMMO S.A’s request to be supported in its project to build “affordable houses in the country”.
He added that the previous week, NHA’s representatives were in Burkina Faso to review the company’s projects and its funding sources. Duanah Siryon explained that in case the contract is agreed on, the project would be decentralized and the houses will be built according to the Liberian standards the NHA will give GELPAZ IMMO S.A.
Let’s remind that after years of civil war, Liberia is facing a deep housing crisis. With 60% of the urban population living in slums in a country where the urbanization rate is 3.20%, NHA estimates that 500,000 housings will be needed by 2030.
