Ghana plans to build a new airport in Takoradi, a coastal town 225 km Southwest from the capital Accra, the deputy minister for aviation Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah said on December 14, 2018.
The “Government is planning to build the new Takoradi airport because we believe that the region contributes a lot to the nation’s GDP, and a lot of businesses will like to have some type of investment in this area. We will like to provide them with the safest means of transport to move from all parts of the world to this place", he said.
The official also indicated that the project will boost economic activities in that region, which is near Côte d'Ivoire.
According to him, the airport whose construction will be launched in 2019 will have a modern terminal and a cargo hub.
