To tackle various land challenges and regulate the sector, Benin plans to adopt a law on developed properties. This was announced by Noukpo Jean-Paul Houndeffo, information secretary of the National Order of Architects and Urban Planners, on TV channel ORTB.
“The law will oversee conditions to use and occupy lands in the Republic of Benin. Real estate development is quite on the rise in Benin but poorly regulated, which is why the government is forced to take responsibility and improve the situation. The law will revolve around three main axes which are security, quality and sustainability of buildings. The economic aspect of projects will also be taken into account, knowingly investment’s safety, be it public or private, either from nationals or foreigners. It is a transversal rule which aims to federate all existing regulations that are actually not effective.”, the official said.
According to him, the upcoming law “is still being studied and re-read by relevant authorities”.
