(Ecofin Agency) - Côte d’Ivoire will benefit from a $33 million support program from World Bank, Xinhua indicated November 17, 2018, citing official sources.
According to information reported by the Chinese media, the new program should fund a program aimed at preserving the country’s coasts (566 kilometers long) targetting Grand-Lahou, 145 km from Abidjan, mainly. It should improve the resilience of targeted communities with "technical assistance to identify threats on the residents, ecosystem and economic assets of the coastal region," according to the project’s coordinator Abé Delfin Ochou.
While reports indicate that each year, Côte d’Ivoire loses three meters of its coast to the sea, authorities expect that in about five years, the new project will boost their capacities in fighting coastal erosion and their adaptation to climate change.
It should be noted that this same program will be implemented in five other African countries namely, Senegal, Mauritania, Benin, Sao-Tome & Principe, and Togo.
