The National Commission for Human Rights of Côte d’Ivoire (CNDHCI) has organized on December 12 and 13, 2017, a workshop themed: “Human rights and land issues”. Financed by the Friedrich Naumann foundation, this workshop was targeting the 31 regional commissioners of the country.
According to its organizers, the initiative was held amid various land conflicts taking place in the country, in the West particularly. “Land access being one of the key factors in the combat against poverty, it is important to regulate and control it. Many people depend on land for their food security. It also impacts natural resources’ sustainability and social peace,” said Namizata Sangaré (picture), president of the CNDHCI.
According to Fraternité Matin, throughout “the two days during which the event was held, its participants were trained on various topics. These are “Human rights”, “Land policy in Côte d’Ivoire”, “Land title issuance process”, “rural land conflict management methods”, “various steps in delivering the definitive concession decree”, “Gender and rural land” as well as “Community mobilization”.
