The 18th Annual World Bank Conference on Land and Poverty will be held at the World Bank Headquarters in Washington D.C. from March 20 to 24, 2017. This is the global forum for all world’s land practitioners to present the latest research and practice on the diversity of reforms, interventions, and innovations in the land sector around the world.
The 2017 conference theme will be: Responsible Land Governance: Towards Evidence-Based Approach. The focus is on the role of data and evidence for realizing land policy reform, identify strategies for working at scale and monitoring achievements. The conference has become one of the largest international events on land governance, attracting over 1,200 participants from governments, academics, civil society, and the private sector.
This year the event is even of greater importance after the adoption of the New Urban Agenda during the World Habitat III summit in October 2016 in Quito.
Thematic for the 2017 land and poverty conference will focus on:
1. Research on land governance and rigorous impact evaluations
2. Delivering land administration services at scale
3. Harnessing geospatial data, cloud platforms, and other data technologies
4. Land and urbanization
5. Land for infrastructure, investment, disaster risk reduction
6. Securing land rights for equity, sustainability, and resilience
In 2016 to respond to an increasing demand for land tenure security, which drives economic development in emerging economies, SGS has created a unique, comprehensive solution to connect people to land. Designed for use by local, national and regional institutions, SGS Land Management aims to improve land governance and strengthen the sustainable management of land and natural resources. It focuses on land policy formulation, legal frameworks and modernization of land management processes and systems through the modeling of a fit for purpose, decentralized and inclusive land administration.
The launch of the SGS land management during the HABITAT III summit and the commitment of its Government & Institution Division to improve States-services delivery to citizen and economic actors will be reiterated during the World Bank event through the participation of the Land Management team from 20th to 24th.
