Yesterday March 22 during a press briefing, Samir Taieb, the Tunisian minister of agriculture, announced that TND100 billion ($41.7 million) would be affected to the exploitation of the agricultural crown land. Global net reports.
“The program for agricultural crown land exploitation will be implemented on over 45, 000 hectares, of which 25, 000 hectares will be used for agricultural valorization and companies’ development and 10, 000 hectares for agricultural cooperatives. An additional 10, 000 hectares will be converted to technical lots,” the official indicated.
The program is designed to “better incorporate public lands in the economic system so that they can contribute to the revival of employment and help develop and support the local market, thus improving food security, trade balance indicator, and promoting exports”. Thanks to this program, more than 3,500 jobs could be created.
