On August 21, 2018, Burkina Faso and World Bank signed three funding agreements totaling $470 million (about CFA266 billion) for education, health, and water supply projects.  

The first agreement will support the higher education system with $70 million. This project is aimed at facilitating access to higher education and providing quality education in focus areas such as agriculture, agroindustry, logistics associated with the value-chain, entrepreneurship, trade and health sciences.

The second agreement is a $50 million donation from IDA and a $250 million “scale up facility” loan for a water sanitation and supply project. This programme is aimed at improving access to water in targeted zones.

The third funding agreement is constituted of an $80 million and $20 million donations from IDA and the Global Financing Facility (GFF) respectively. The goal is to improve the quality and use of health services with a particular focus on the health of mothers and children, nutrition as well as on disease surveillance.

Let’s remind that these agreements were signed during the visit of a World Bank’s delegation led by the Vice President of the World Bank for Africa, Hafez Ghanem, in Africa. With these agreements included, the institution’s support in Burkina Faso totals $2,339.52 million in favor of thirty projects.
