Ethiopia wants to build a new $70 million road axis, Samson Wondimu (photo), communication manager of the Ethiopian roads authority, indicated this week.
According to the official’s statement cited by Xinhua, the new construction will span over 73 kilometres and is fully funded by the government. It should be constructed by Bejing Urban Construction Group, a Chinese company, within four years.
Ethiopian authorities want to link the Southern agricultural areas to the central region and boost tourism thanks to the infrastructure.
Years ago, Ethiopia launched the modernisation of its road infrastructures. Thanks to the programme, it reached 121,171 km of road networks in 2018 against 19,000 km in 1991. The country announced its ambition to reach 200,000 km of road networks in 2020.
