Even if it recently focused mainly on the consolidation of industrial lands, the Algerian government remains committed to the valorization of the country’s agricultural lands. This was said on September 25, 2017, by the Prime Minister, Ahmed Ouyahia (picture), during the presentation of the government’s action plan to the members of the Nation's Council.
“We are reiterating our will to exploit all the country’s agricultural lands. Dictating slogans is over. The State owns 178 pilot farms covering an area of 200,000 hectares and these are Algeria’s best lands. The government has decided, six months ago, to trust these lands to local and foreign investors who will valorize them, in partnership with Algerians,” said the Prime Minister cited by El Watan.
Besides valorizing agricultural lands more, M. Ouyahia announced multiple economic and social measures, and promised to “increase State subsidies to non-oil exports, double loans for programmes that aim to develop communities, and revive the rural renewal programme which was announced in 1999 by President Bouteflika”.
