In DR Congo, land conflicts have spread to the University of Kinshasa. Indeed, green spaces belonging to the institution are occupied by individuals who now claim their ownership.
This is quite alarming more so since some of the residents have proceeded to the cadastering of some areas, driving the minister of land affairs to personally come on the site. “To solve this illegal occupancy issue, Felix Kabange Numbi with his collaborators as well as land experts, has, during a meeting with the management committee, the university’s board of directors and the district of Matete, decided to establish a commission which will proceed in less than a week to the measuring and re-cadaster of the plot in order to prevent land overlapping and insure registering and title deed securing for the public property,” reported l’Agence d’information d’Afrique centrale.
Let’s recall that Minister Numbi, as soon as he came into office, put land conflict reduction as his main priority.
