Teodoro Obiang Nguema, Equatorial Guinea’s president, dismissed the country’s chief justice Juan Carlos Ondo Angue (photo).
The decree dismissing the official was read on the state television TVGE but, there was no indication of the reasons behind such measure. However, as AFP reminds, the country’s president does not hide his indignation at the corruption in the judicial system.
“Unfortunately, we observe that corruption still rules the judicial system. The judges do not observe the law. They plan judicial insecurity that drives foreign investors away by applying sanctions that are not prescribed in the legislation, for their personal gains and perceiving huge legal fees and taxes set just to extort citizens”, he said on January 15, 2018, at the start of the new legal year.
The former public prosecutor David Nguema Ndong will replace the dismissed chief justice.
