Morocco will have to raise $50 billion by 2030 if it wishes to reduce its greenhouse gas by 42%, Nezha El Ouafi (photo), the secretary of state said last week.
According to the official’s statements relayed by L’Observateur du Maroc et de l’Afrique, about half of those funds ($24 billion) should be provided by international investors.
These funds will help implement more than fifty projects in the renewable energy sector notably.
Let’s note that this measure which is part of Morocco’s contribution at the national level is also aimed at helping the country mitigate its growing vulnerability to climate change’s negative impacts due to its geographical position.
After it hosted COP22 in 2016 for the adoption of strategies aimed at fighting climate change, Morrocco also announced its ambition to increase the share of renewable energy in the country’s energy mix to 52% by 2030.
