The French car manufacturer Renault plans to increase the production capacity of its plants in Morocco to 500,000 cars yearly, Carlos Ghosn (Photo), the company’s CEO announced last Friday.
According to information relayed by Les Echos, this new target is aimed at meeting rising demands that translated in strong growth in the sale of the Dacia branded cars manufactured by the company during the nine first months of the current year.
To meet this objective, the company wants to double the production capacity of its Casablanca plant from 80,000 to 160,000 cars by 2022.
In a country where the company already employs about 8,100 residents, this new investment whose amount has not been disclosed yet should help create new jobs and contribute to the government’s ambition to make Morocco one of the main car hubs on the continent.
Let’s remind that the automotive sector is the largest export industry in Morocco with a 7.3% growth in 2017.
