On October 23, GUILAB and Cabo Verde Telecom signed a memorandum of understanding to build a regional telecommunications submarine cable system.
Aiming mainly at securing the international communications of several countries currently relying on a single submarine cable system, the system will also support the digital development of a region of more than 100 million inhabitants by improving regional connectivity and strengthening infrastructure robustness as well as the quality of service.
Under this agreement, GUILAB and CV Telecom undertake to jointly study the feasibility of the project and to develop an implementation plan.
Mr Mohamed DIALLO, GUILAB's Managing Director, warmly welcomed this collaboration with Cabo Verde Telecom, and pointed out that "the project will promote the development of Internet services in the region and facilitate access to information, particularly through the significant contribution it will make to increasing local content."
Mr José Luis Livramento, Chairman of Cabo Verde Telecom, also noted with satisfaction that this collaboration between two African operators is for his part a strategic initiative for the development of a strong and dynamic digital ecosystem in West Africa, a key driver for the growth of the digital economy.
The project will be promoted to regional stakeholders and the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding with the other partners is expected to be completed no later than the end of 2018.
