Guinean telecom operator Guinée Bissau Telecom signed on December 30, 2015, a strategic partnership with the Chinese telecom manufacturer Huawei. As a result of this partnership, Huawei is to rebuild and modernize the network of Guinée Bissau Telecom.
The government through this partnership called “Guinée Bissau GT Network Modernization project” will invest $60 million (Fcfa36 billion) to make the telecom operator the country’s third mobile operator. In 2014, Guinée Bissau Telecom had to abandon providing its mobile services since its network lacked infrastructure and technology.
Huawei is to build 150 telecom sites which will have the latest technology and be able to support the plans of Guinée Bissau Telecom.
Carlos Correira, Guinea Bissau’s Prime Minister said he hoped this partnership would allow the country’s telecom industry to greatly improve.
