In Algeria, Telecommunication and Post Regulatory Authority (ARPT in French) published on its website the latest statistics of the local market. These show that at December 31, 2015, the mobile internet segment recorded 6,208,000 new users going from 10,111,000 in 2014 to 16,319,000 in 2015, as a result of introduction of 3G in 2014.
Algeria’s internet market registered a total of 18,583,427 internet users at December 31, 2015. 87.81% of this figure use 3G, 9.89% ADSL and 2.28% fixed 4G LTE which was introduced by Algerie Telecom in 2014. With a population of close to 43 million people, Algeria’s 18,583,427 internet users represent about 46% having access to broadband. Once 4G is introduced in the country, by the end of 2016, the telecom regulator expects these numbers to explode.
Considering how quickly broadband internet was adopted by Algerians, the ICT local market should rapidly grow. As for content production, it should record a substantial boom just like the added-value mobile development segment.
