Internet connexion in African nations where telecom operators and Internet Service Providers use the South Africa Far East (SAFE) sub-marine cable has been slow since September 2, 2016. Among countries affected there is Mauritius, Benin, Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, Angola, Senegal and Ghana.
Anticipating future complaints from its users, Mauritius Telecom, cited by local news website defimedia.info, apologized in advance in a statement published on September 1, 2016. The firm explained that it is not responsible for the slow connexion saying it was due to maintenance works initiated on September 2, 2016, on the cable.
According to the Reunion website zinfos974.com, the maintenance works on SAFE which are also causing Internet to be slow in the country, result from parts of the cable, offshore, being cut. Everything should return to normal on September 12.
