China commits to help Guinea improve ICT and telecommunications

Monday, 07 November 2016 18:10

China will put its expertise and support at the disposal of Guinea’s ICT and telecommunication sector. This came out from a visit by Guinea’s President, Alpha Condé, to China from October 25 to November 4, 2016.

Guinea seeks to diversify its economy and make ITC and telecoms a cornerstone for its growth. China which is much advanced in the sector is thus a partner of choice for the nation.

The West African country expects the support of Chinese tech giants like Huawei to develop its telecom environment; secure more financing from the Exim-Bank to develop telecom infrastructures; get smart advices to support and promote youth innovation; draw strategies to develop the digital content market, transform the industry to attract more big tech firms such as ZTE, Tecno Xiaomi in the country.

Highlighting how important he considers his country’s economic development with China’s support (a development in which telecommunications has a significant place, amid global digitalization), Guinea’s president told Xinhua that his nation would like for “economic cooperation with China to be stronger than political cooperation”.

During a meeting between Alpha Condé and Xi Jinping on November 2, 2016, the two heads of State agreed on a strategic partnership for cooperation between the two nations.
