A recent report released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has shown that the Nigerian Postal Service (NPS) generated a total revenue of N8.84billion in 2016.
This revenue includes Stamp Duty (N4.09bn), EMS/Speed post (N1.36bn), Parcel clearance/delivery fee (N726.85m) and international mail income (N715.73m), amongst others.
The report titled “Annual Postal Services Data 2016”, further revealed that the agency managed a total of 33,683,640 mail both domestically and internationally in 2016. Of the total mail, 21,057,137, were handled locally, while 7,689,093 mail were sent overseas and 4,937,410 were received from abroad and delivered in Nigeria.
NPS is a government-owned and operated corporation, charged with the responsibility of ensuring that postal services are available to all citizens of Nigeria at an affordable cost and in a timely and efficient way. Currently, Nigeria has 1, 858 post offices and postal agencies.
