In Guinea, mobile operator Orange launched the 4G technology on May 9, 2019, in Conakry. The new service covers the whole communities in the capital city, Kaloum, Dixinn, Ratoma, Matoto and Matam namely.
The technology will be later deployed in other parts according to the guidelines set in its contract specifications, which provides that at least 90% of the population should be covered.
On March 4, 2019, Orange obtained a 10-year global licence for $90 million. With the launch of the 4G, Orange takes comfort in its position as the market leader with 67% market share ahead of Cellcom and MTN, its main competitor. It expects to woo new subscribers and gain new market shares.
