In April 2022, Africell launched its commercial activities in Angola. With five million subscribers currently, it wants to accelerate its growth and increase revenues.
The U.S telecom group Africell recently signed a partnership agreement with the British company Perception TVCDN to launch a free television service in Angola. The television service called AfriTV, is scheduled to start operations in the fourth quarter of 2022. It will be accessible to Africell Angola’s mobile network subscribers.
AfriTV will mainly broadcast “leading Portuguese language linear TV channels” and “ new channels auto-scheduled from Portuguese language VoD libraries and exciting social media video content” with “automated 7 days catch up TV.”
The impending launch “marks a TV landscape change in Angola offering Africell mobile users a free TV service fit for the future. It’s also a landmark deal for Perception TVCDN as our first fully managed service in Africa continuing our successful growth story throughout Africa in general,” commented John Mills, CEO of Perception Group.
The partnership is part of Africell's efforts to rapidly increase its subscriber base in the Angolan telecom market, which it entered five months ago. AfriTV should not only enable the mobile operator to retain and acquire subscribers but also boost data consumption. Let’s note that the partnership will be monetized by using the revenues from data used by subscribers to watch content on AfriTV.
