Telecom operator Telecom Namibia denounced a new act of vandalism on its Erongo fiber optic ring. The infrastructure supports telecommunication traffic between Windhoek and the coastal region and bordering countries. According to the Oiva Angula, director of institutional communication Telecom Namibia, 32 poles were stolen from the telecom’s overhead fibre route between Arandis and Karibib.
Telecom Namibia reassured its subscribers that the act of vandalism did not affect its services. However, the company complained about this case of pole theft which occurred five months after the first one.
In order to prevent similar attacks from repeating itself, Telecom Namibia in collaboration with the police offered a reward of N$20,000 ($1,188) for any information which could help arrest and convict any person responsible for the vandalism of its network.
