Google and Livity Africa to train 1 million young Africans in digital skills

Wednesday, 13 April 2016 18:51

To support its partner Livity Africa, American Internet giant Google has committed to train one million young Africans, in digital skills, next year. Google’s program is part of two others of Livity Africa. First is “Digify Bytes” that aims to give digital skills to young people who want to develop digital careers. Second is “Digify Pro”, a three-month immersion programme for digital professionals.

Website itnewsafrica.com who revealed the information said the Livity Africa’s training courses had already been launched in Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa. They will be carried out over the next 12 months. Before the launching of “Digify Bytes” and “Digify Pro” across all of Africa, Livity Africa and Google launched an e-learning platform named digifyafrica.com to help other African nations have access to lighter digital trainings. The platform currently includes nine courses which Google wishes to bring to 50 by next July.

“The Internet is at the heart of economic growth and the digital skills programme is aimed at helping more Africans play a part in the digital economy. Everyone can succeed online, start a new business, grow their existing one, or share their passion,” said Google SA country director Luke McKend.
